About the event

You are invited to attend our upcoming Urban Lunch on Thursday November 25 from Noon to 1:00 PM via Zoom. Danny Oleksiuk cofounder of Abundant Housing Vancouver and Dale McClanaghan, social and rental housing advocate will present their ideas on how to make our city better. This will be the 6th in a series that is being well attended by urbanists.

Danny Oleksiuk brings much experience having been a member of the City of Vancouver Rental Advisory Committee, a lawyer with BCGEU and a freelance writer for numerous publications. Danny has also been a policy analyst for BC’s Ministry of Housing and the United Nations in Beijing.

Dale McClanaghan has been CEO of Vancity Credit Union’s affordable housing effort and has developed market and non market housing. He contributed to the City of Vancouver’s Rental Strategy and consults on housing planning, policy research and program design with local Governments and Universities.

These Urban Lunches are being held in advance of the upcoming visit of Alain and Marie-Agnès Bertaud next spring. Alain is the former Chief Urban Planner of the World Bank and author of the internationally acclaimed “Order Without Design”. He began his career working for le Corbusier designing Chandigarh, Capital of Punjab. His goal is that urban planners and urban economists should work closer together. He is advising local urbanists on ways Metro Vancouver can become a better region and has attended all of the Urban Lunches so far.

Chris Lewis of the Squamish First Nation, Julia Hartens of SCARP UBC, Wendy Waters of GWL Advisors, Andrey Pavlov of SFU, Michael Mortensen of Liveable City Planning, Jens von Bergmann of Mountain Math all spoke at the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre on September 20 at the Alain Bertaud Public Salon. You can view Alain and the Vancouver presenters here... Alain Bertaud Public Salon Playlist.
