About the event

“The Business of Northwest New Urbanism + Bridging Sustainability & Aboriginal Values”

Host

Congress for the New Urbanism-Cascadia (CNU-C) is a regional chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) that serves the bioregion of Washington,

Oregon, and British Columbia. Our mission is:

. . . to promote the awareness and practice of conservation, preservation, development, and redevelopment which support diverse, pedestrian oriented,

accessible, vibrant, and environmentally responsible communities and neighborhoods. We are an nonprofit advocacy organization that holds an annual Summit which rotates

between the regional cities, as well as local multidisciplinary, cross-sect oral industry networking events.

What?

Sharpen the pencils and let’s get down to the business . . . of building more walkable, healthy, vibrant, economically thriving green neighbourhoods in the Pacific Northwest. CNU-C, as an advocate for pedestrian-oriented, sustainable urban design, is “growing the tent” to include those with “skin in the game”. The Vancouver Summit 2015 has two major goals. The first focus is to encourage the implementation of walkable neighbourhood design through informal business networking by a broad range of actors and decision makers interested in green city building.

The second goal is to start building relationships with First Nations, as this community takes on larger roles in a variety of developments in BC and elsewhere, and to find

opportunities for collaborative learning.

Who Should Attend?

Developers, BIAs, community economic development consultants, urban designers, municipal planners, engineers, health officials, transportation planners, mortgage brokers, First Nations, planning commissioners, elected officials, mayors, small business owners, realtors, citizen advocates, architects, landscape architects, and others.

Friday, November 6th

Walking Tours + Networking Evening

Attendees can sign up for one of two sets of walking tours (stream A or stream B), each of which consisting of three consecutive tours. Time has been allocated for stops at local brewery pubs between tours. Tour start and end points can be easily reached on foot or by public transit from the Summit venues.

Note: Delegates may choose Walking Tour Stream A or B, but not mix and match as the individual tours are not within walking proximity. The Walking Tours have been packaged for logistics.

An evening cocktail networking reception at the Bill Reid Gallery will follow, with a keynote speaker and a Pecha Kucha by business and community leaders.
