Imagining 2050: Turning Ideas into Action
Presented by: Metro Vancouver and TransLink
Following the closing plenary of the Rail~Volution Conference, the Rail~Volution Regional Forum will continue the dialogue on pressing urban development and transportation issues, but with a local flavour.
The purpose of the Regional Forum is to support the integration and development of two major planning efforts underway – Metro 2050, the update to the Regional Growth Strategy, being developed by Metro Vancouver and Transport 2050, the new Regional Transportation Strategy, led by TransLink. These strategies aim to consider the major challenges facing this region including housing affordability, equity, climate change, and emerging transportation technologies like automated and connected vehicles.
The Forum includes:
Keynote address presented by Vancity: Jay Pitter, Placemaker, Author “Subdivided: City Building in an Age of Hyper Diversity”
Panel moderated by Frances Bula, Urban Affairs Contributor, Globe and Mail:
o Stephanie Allen, Associate VP, Strategic Operations & Performance, BC Housing, Board of Directors, Hogan’s Alley Society.
o Andrea Reimer, Adjunct Professor, UBC School of Public Policy and Global Affairs; Harvard Fellow; former Vancouver councillor
o Khelsilem, Councillor, Squamish Nation Council
o Thatcher Imboden, TOD Manager, Sound Transit
You are invited to join local stakeholders in considering how the ideas and best practices discussed at Rail~Volution 2019 could be considered and incorporated into these two major planning initiatives. Through panels and structured table conversations, the Regional Forum will spur ongoing discussion and local action and will help inform Metro 2050 and Transport 2050. Leave your mark and help build a lasting legacy in the Metro Vancouver region.
Post-event reception to follow, from 5:30-8PM.
Want to continue the conversation over a beverage and snack? IBI Group is hosting a post-event reception at their downtown office. We welcome you to join in and meet other engaged individuals.
