About the event

Currently only 30-40% of serious cycling incidents are reported, and there is no data on near-misses. BikeMaps.org is a crowd-sourced mapping website where cyclists log data on hazards, near-misses, thefts, and collisions. This may offer a more complete picture of cycling safety. What are some ways it can be used in cycling promotion and advocacy? What other forms and uses of social media would make cycling safer in our communities?

Moderator: Meghan Winters

Meghan Winters is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University researching links between health, transportation, and city design. She is frequently seen on the bike routes of Metro Vancouver with her young boys in tow.
