About the event

41+3 to 43. After 16 years of single-party domination, B.C.’s voters have chosen change. But the outcome is so narrow that confusion and uncertainty reign. How can the new legislature elect its required Speaker, let alone a required Deputy Speaker? Could a decision by an unelected, ceremonial Lieutenant Governor (representing the Queen) throw the province’s voters almost immediately into a new election? How solid is the NDP-Green coalition, and what are its chances of surviving its intended 4 1/2 years? Can provincial opposition really stop a national pipeline, or a dam under construction? Will First Nations rights become more decisive, or more divisive?

OK, it’s political junkie heaven! But you have questions too. Our Presenters UBC Political Scientist Kathryn Harrison, SFU political scientist and postdoctoral fellow David Moscrop and editor at The Tyee Paul Willcocks have answers, and they want to share your opinions and observations. It’s exciting times, so please join us for an exciting SFU City Conversation. Feel free to bring your lunch, but no throwing tomatoes.
