About the event

Vancouver wouldn’t be the city it is today without the work of diverse women. We serve on council, plan our neighbourhoods, and staff our hospitals. We’re raising the next generation and designing technology to address present challenges. We work in all aspects of the economy and carry out 80% of unpaid work in the home. But as we support Vancouver, could Vancouver do more to support us?

The Hot Pink Pathways to a Women-friendly Vancouver Forum will bring together diverse women with civic leadership to share their experiences and inspiration. We will explore opportunities and barriers to women’s political participation in Vancouver and discuss issues facing women and girls that you want municipal candidates to address this coming election. Information gathered at this event will be used to inform this year's Hot Pink Paper Campaign.

  • Shauna Sylvester and Wai Young, Mayoral candidates
  • Carrie Bercic, School Board Trustee
  • Diana Day, School Board Trustee candidate
  • Adrianne Carr and Melissa DeGenova, City Councillors
  • Niki Sharma, former Park Board Chairperson
  • The panel will be moderated by Ellen Woodsworth, Women Transforming Cities

The forum will consist of two segments. First, our panel will speak to their civic engagement experiences, and the municipal issues they see as key to women’s success. From there, we’ll break out into a discussion of top election issues, and what municipal candidates can do to make Vancouver work for women and girls.
