About the event
Rethinking the Region is an annual day-long conference that provides an opportunity for deep dialogue, reflection and learning about the past, present and future of regional governance in Metro Vancouver. For the first time this year, we are co-hosting Rethinking the Region with the SFU School of Public Policy and also partnering with the City of New Westminster.
Speakers will include
Peter Fassbender, minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, former mayor of the City of Langley
Jonathan Cote, current mayor and former councillor, City of New Westminster
Raymond Louie, councillor for the City of Vancouver, vice-president of the board of Metro Vancouver, president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities
Harold Steves, long-time councillor for the City of Richmond, architect of the Agricultural Land Reserve
Dr. Zack Taylor, political scientist at Western Univerity, expert in comparative urban governance models in Canada and the United States
Joy MacPhail, former Vancouver MLA and B.C. transportation minister, introduced the legislation that created TransLink in 1998
David Bragdon, executive director of NYC's Transit Center, former president of Portland, Oregon's Metro Council
Richard Hankin, manager of Metro Vancouver regional parks for 25 years, recognized as the architect of Metro Vancouver's regional parks system
